Iowa City ASC Now Performing Partial Knee Replacements
We are now performing partial knee replacements using a unicompartmental knee system. This is a potential alternative to total knee replacement for patients with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis that is generally limited to a single compartment of the knee. It is designed to replace only the damaged portion of the knee, thereby allowing the surgeon to preserve the joint’s healthy bone and cartilage and spare the cruciate ligaments that help provide knee stability.
- Potential Benefits of Partial Knee Replacement at Iowa City ASC:
- Less Pain
- More Normal Feeling Knee
- Smaller Incisions
- Quicker Rehabilitation and Return to Activity

- Implant Allows for up to 155 Degrees of Flexion
The unicompartmental knee system or partial knee implant is designed to offer benefits to patients who have a moderately active lifestyle and are within normal weight ranges.
